Obsessed is such a strong word…..

but it’s truly not strong enough for the way this girl feels about her moonie! She has a moon night light, she screams with joy every time she finds it in the sky. She has been known to tell people that they can have the sun but the moon is hers!

So of course I couldn’t pass up a chance to take her to NASA!!!

There are no good pictures of Jilly at Rocket Park. She just ran around and explored. She went inside everything she could climb inside totally ignoring the ropes and “Do Not Cross” signs. I guess when you own the moon you can make your own rules.

She was very disappointed in the size of the moon rock and said it wasn’t big enough for her.

I’m living in an internet world!

If you spend any time on the book of faces you have seen this picture. People have been tagged, you might have laughed.

Well it seems I’m living it! The girls were counting down, I had my finger ready on the camera and then Jillian turns and laughs and jumps! Luckily I was quick enough and caught it. This is made funnier by the fact that just that morning I myself was tagged in the ballet girl picture with the comment “this is your Jillian”

What’s in a name?

So in the last few weeks I have been asked more times then usual about my daughters’ names. They are not ones you hear often (at least where we live) and they are nice….flow well together. So since we haven’t done anything exciting and worth blogging about just sit back and enjoy a story. If you already know the stories then just scroll on by. 🙂

First I need to tell you that my husband’s name is a sentence. When translated it means “King of a town of Little Devils” ok that’s funny and magical.

We have an old fashioned last name straight out of England so we knew we wanted old fashioned names. As a teacher I knew they had to be names I didn’t hear often.

1. Veronica Elizabeth:

The meaning of the name Veronica: Bringing Victory
The meaning of the name Elizabeth: God Is My Oath

Veronica was my great grandma’s name and Elizabeth was my grandma’s name. As soon as I knew I was having a girl I knew Elizabeth was going to be in there. That was not an option. Veronica was one we called out of a book but when I looked at it I knew. I knew that it was perfect. We managed to keep it a secret until she was born. I kinda liked that we kept it secret, but I think it drove the grandparents a little crazy. 🙂

2. Danielle Marie:

The meaning of the name Danielle: God Is My Judge
The meaning of the name Marie: Of The Sea Or Bitter

I wish I could tell you there is a romantic story behind Danielle’s name, I truly do but my momma taught me not to lie. Marie was my grandma’s middle name, so in my heart my grandma is truly living on within my children.

Danielle on the other hand comes from a crush. See to help me relax while I was pregnant Hubster had me start watching Stargate SG1 and well I kinda fell in love. I loved the stories. I loved the characters. I loved the universe that was created.

I loved this man. He was kind. He was smart. He was caring. He was nerdy.

Dr. Daniel Jackson

On a whim I said “Why don’t we use the name Danielle after Dr. Jackson?” Well it stuck. He loved it and I loved it. So my Danielle came from my fan girl love! 🙂

3. Jillian Alexandria

The meaning of the name Jillian: Youthful
The meaning of the name Alexandria: City Of Alexander

When Danielle was 9 months old I started my teaching career. My first year teaching as I’m standing in front of the class calling attendance for the first time I read Jillian. In my mind I heard “that’s your daughter’s name”. I laughed it off because well it wasn’t and at that point we were done with two. So I went on with life.

Much like it happens when you let God be in control I had a perfectly timed not 100% planned pregnancy that I wouldn’t change. I found out it was a girl and I remember Jillian and that name. Well Hubster liked it but he didn’t love it. He was set on a Catherine, but in my heart I knew. So we went to the hospital with a plan. If she was born with red hair she was Jillian because it would fit…if she wasn’t well then she wasn’t.

On September 28, 2011 out came my little red headed freckle faced Jillian! The first thing Hubster said he saw was “She’s Jillian”! I knew all along she would be.

Alexandria came from books! Both hubster and I had been engrossed in any and all books involving Greek Mythology and I felt it was best to use that as her middle name. I wish it was shorter and lots of times I call her Jillian Grace (that was my choice but because of Veronica we couldn’t do that). However I feel she has a pretty strong name.

Watching her swim

When we walked into the pool we were seated in the same section as all the other Water Waddlers, it was the first day of swim lessons for Jillian. They called up the kids and paired them with their life guard for lessons and all of a sudden I was alone. Not like alone because my kid was gone….alone because all of the parents moved to the side of the pool where their kids were. It took me a little while to notice this and then I just thought about it.

I’m not that mom who is going to follow my kid every where. If I feel they are safe and in good hands then I’m going to let them venture off on their own. I’m going to let them explore and learn at their own pace.

There Jilly was laughing and talking to her life guard like they were best friends. Learning from her and in her own little world. She wasn’t even looking around for me she was her own independent self, taking on the world as she was comfortable.

So no I didn’t move to within 3 feet of my daughter while she had her first swim lesson, but when I watched her from afar I noticed that she was the only one in the deepest end of the pool. She was the only one who was in a lane swimming the length of the pool twice.

So proud of her!

Mommy, I have to give my heart to Jesus

It’s Thursday! That means rush out of school as quickly as I can, pick up all the kids, feed them and get to the church by 5:30. We run the sound board at church and thursday’s we practice.

As a person growing up Catholic where the only obligation I ever had to church was Sunday morning, I have a very unusual relationship with the Methodist Church my family goes to now. We are there 3 days a week because we are so involved so sometimes I walk through those doors and I feel like I’m home and other times I walk through those doors and I think about all the things at home that need my attention, but I return every week because even tough the dishes need washing and the laundry needs folding I love being involved at the church.

So back to today….

Practice has run late because our music man added a new song and lots of members of our band were missing…so when we were done at 7:15 I went to the nursery to pick up the kids. As usual they had done a little craft and with Valentine’s having just passed they colored hearts. Jillian comes through the door saying “Mommy I have to give my heart to Jesus”.

Being the smart little girl that Danielle is she says “How are you going to do that, he’s dead?” Jillian explains that she is going to go up there and give it to Him and then go home. I wasn’t exactly sure what she was planning on doing with her hearts but I took her into the sanctuary when I saw the Praise team was praying and we joined in the circle. She smiled at me the whole time her daddy was praying out loud and kept her little bitty hands next to those hearts. She had a plan and she wasn’t going to let anyone stop her!

The prayers end and everyone turns to leave when Jillian sees the wooden cross on the Alter and makes a bee line for it.

The mom in me kicks in because it’s her bed time and we haven’t even had bathes and tomorrow’s picture day and we still have to drive home and …. and …. and…

Jillian stops me, stomps her foot in that red headed three year old way and says “Mommy I’m not leaving until I give my heart to Jesus!” In that moment dishes, laundry, bed times don’t matter any more. I realize that this girl is serious and I need to not let this moment pass. So I ask her if it would be ok for her to put her hearts up there by the cross I take a picture and then she gives them away. I’m thinking our Pastor and Children’s Minister would love them. She agrees!

As she smiling the proudest smile, I’m crying the happiest tears. I’m thankful for the reminder from a little girl about what is most important.

Jillian gave her heart to Jesus tonight!
