She moved to make sure I couldn’t get a picture of her….but this was even better!
When we walked into the pool we were seated in the same section as all the other Water Waddlers, it was the first day of swim lessons for Jillian. They called up the kids and paired them with their life guard for lessons and all of a sudden I was alone. Not like alone because my kid was gone….alone because all of the parents moved to the side of the pool where their kids were. It took me a little while to notice this and then I just thought about it.
I’m not that mom who is going to follow my kid every where. If I feel they are safe and in good hands then I’m going to let them venture off on their own. I’m going to let them explore and learn at their own pace.
There Jilly was laughing and talking to her life guard like they were best friends. Learning from her and in her own little world. She wasn’t even looking around for me she was her own independent self, taking on the world as she was comfortable.
So no I didn’t move to within 3 feet of my daughter while she had her first swim lesson, but when I watched her from afar I noticed that she was the only one in the deepest end of the pool. She was the only one who was in a lane swimming the length of the pool twice.
It was a magical night. The skies were clear and the music was familiar. We traveled to the city to listen to the Houston Symphony play all those favorite Disney songs.
We stopped at dinner and saw the return of the Olaf.
Do you see them? They were there in all their royal finery when we walked into the gate, I think I was more excited then the girls. But really….OMG…..Aladdin and Ariel there in the flesh!
Jilly kept telling me “no you can’t take my picture” She would do everything to block my camera.
That is until I put a princess gown on her! Every girl comes alive when they dress the part!
We listened, we sang, we danced, I might have cried a teeny bit at hearing songs from my childhood come alive with the symphony and broadway singers. Even my big daughter cuddled up to me a few times when no one was looking. Jillian watched the screen and named ALL the movies as they came up. After the applause died down from the last verse of Let It Go the singers asked if we wanted an encore….you guys they sang Circle of Life!! Lion King! I told my daughters that if the frozen songs were for the kids this one was for the adults, from my childhood. Everyone loved it and has asked me to find the next time the symphony is performing, little did they know I already had 3 visits put on the calendar for the next year.
I wish I wasn’t a rule follower, but then I could show you the AMAZING thing that happened in that crowd of THOUSANDS when they played the songs from Frozen. If you didn’t get goosebumps from that well you have no soul. But alas I don’t like to get in trouble so I didn’t make recordings of the performance.
The plan for the summer is to let each day happen (except a few that are already planned). I woke up thinking today was a pajama day you know t.v. and relaxing, maybe a book some Friends reruns on netflix.
But the day wanted something else, the day wanted an adventure!
So we ventured down some dusty roads to a hidden treasure. A rock shop! Who knew there was such an amazing place in our small town?
With dozens of different themed rooms and any type of rock you could think of this place had a story to tell. It was just about rocks, it was about history and science and even some jewelry.
Of course exploring rocks made my little adventurers very hungry. We were near one of our favorite places to go so we stopped in for fried chicken, mashed potatoes and peach cobbler!
Since we have gotten home the girls have been playing with their rocks, counting them trying to look through them, arranging them in color patterns. I think I might have some rock hounds on my hands now.
So we kicked off summer with an unplanned local magical adventure! Welcome to summer 2015!
Yes I know it’s only a week long challenge…but really it’s end of year teacher right here so cut me some slack! 🙂
OK Day 4 is Starts with B and Day 5 is Looking Down….these are kinda the same thing.
Starts with B with be Besties from work! I work with some amazing people and I adore them so much.
Looking down would be looking down on my dining room table and seeing games and friends all around. I had a little (very little) party before the last day of school where we laughed and talked and drank and ate and played games. it was awesome!
After the day I had today I really needed a silly day! So we put on silly hats and had a silly dinner. This was Veronica’s mean face!
I know that soon it will be too hot to even think about going outside…but for right now it’s beautiful!
Many clouds in the sky and not one of them a rain cloud! This is awesome news from Texas!
OK guys we can do this! It’s only a week at a time and it’s almost summer. Do this with me…it will be fun!
